Men’s 200 Medley Relay Sets Multiple Records On First Day Of Horizon League Championship

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Action at the 2016 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championship got underway Wednesday, with the Cleveland State men's and women's teams competing in the 200 Medley Relay, 800 Free Relay, and the men's 3-Meter diving event.

The highlight of the day came in the men's 200 medley relay, as the Vikings posted a program, Horizon League, championship, and pool record with a time of 1:26.05. The quartet of Philipp Sikatzki, Tommi Wolst, Szymon Golczyk, and Declan McLaughlin took home first place honors in the event, as they also posted an NCAA B Cut.

The men also posted a school record in the 800 free relay, as the quartet of Sikatzki, Golczyk, Phillip Brittain, and Wolst finished third overall with a time of 6:34.58.

On the women's side, the Vikings placed fourth in the 200 medley relay and sixth in the 800 free relay.

The Cleveland State quartet of Cassie Oltman, Tobie Zeller, Molly McNamara, and Jamie VanDewerker posted a season-best time of 1:43.11 in the 200 medley relay, marking the third-best time in program history.

Claudia Zido, McNamara, Anna Evans, and Michaela Bargardi swam the 800 free relay for the Vikings, notching a season-best time of 7:37.20. The time also marked the fourth fastest in program history.

Things also got underway on the diving board Wednesday, with the men's 3-meter event taking place. Danny Roberts, Daniel Wilcox, and Anthony Haywood competed for the Vikings, with Roberts advancing to the A Finals.

Roberts posted a score of 282.80 to place seventh overall, while Wilcox posted a finals score of 237.50 to finish 15th.

Action at the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championship will continue tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 25), with the following events taking place:

500 Freestyle
200 Individual Medley
50 Freestyle
1-Meter Diving (Women)
200 Free Relay

Swimming prelims will start at 10:00 a.m., with diving prelims beginning at 1:00 p.m. Finals will start at 5:30 p.m.
