Vikings Earn First Win of Season With 150-77 Triumph Over Gannon

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Freshman Cassandra Oltman won two events and was part of a winning relay team to help Cleveland State to a 150-77 victory over Gannon on Saturday afternoon in Busbey Natatorium.

The Vikings improved to 1-3 this season.

Oltman was part of the 200 IM relay team that got the Vikings off to a quick start with a victory in 1:50.22. She was joined on the squad by Tobie Zeller, Molly McNamara and Ashleigh Bennett.

Oltman would go on to also win the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, swimming the events back-to-back with diving sandwiched in between.

Tori Taffner won both diving events for CSU, claiming the 1-meter board with a score of 247.30 and the 3-meter with a 258.30 score.

The Vikings also had five other individual winners with Claudia Zido winning the 1,000 freestyle, McNamara winning the 200 freestyle, Bennett claiming the 100 backstroke, Bethany Robertson winning the 500 freestyle and Zeller swimming to a win in the 100 breastroke.

In addition, the team of Zido, Anna Evans, Tara VanDewerker and Bennett combined to swim a time of 3:36.61 to win the 400 free relay to close out the meet.

CSU is out of action until Nov. 6 when the Vikings host Marshall at 5:30 pm in Busbey Natatorium. The following day, CSU hosts Marshall and St. Bonaventure at 1:00 pm.
