Women's Swimming Split Against Youngstown State and Valparaiso

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued the 2014-15 season with their second meet of the weekend. The Viking men faced off against Valparaiso, while the women went against Valparaiso and Youngstown State at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

The men and women's team beat Valparaiso, but the women fell to Youngstown State.

The Vikings had 12 first place winners in the individual swimming and diving events.

For the men's squad, the 400 medley relay team started off the day with a first place finish of 3:28.65. Kyle Riordan won the 1,000 freestyle (10:08.74) with Patrick Walsh just behind with a time of 10:09.09. Nathan Grant won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.44 and 100 freestyle with a time of 47.54. Freshman, Jonathon LaValle won the 100 back with a time of 53.03. Phillip Brittain placed first in the 100 breastroke with a mark of 59.25. Phillip Sikatzki won the 50 free with a time of 20.82 and the 200 back with a time of 1:51.65. Gage Alleman won the 200 breastroke with a mark of 2:12.39 and the 400 IM (4:11.04). In the 500 freestyle, Kyle Riordan took first place with a time of 4:54.48. The men finished the day with another first place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:11.65.

The Viking women were led by Madisen Tretter took first in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:08.94 and 200 breastroke with a time of 2:28.49.

The Viking men will be back in action on Thursday (Oct. 30) at Ohio State University with events beginning at 5 p.m. The women's next meet will be Saturday, November 8th against St. Bonaventure on with events beginning at 1 p.m.
