Johansson and Elbadry Swim with Success on Day Two

CLEVELAND, Ohio- On day two of the HL Swimming and Diving Championships, the Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team are in fourth place, earning 198 points heading into day three.  CSU competed in the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1-meter women's diving, and the 400 medley relay.

The Vikings had top swimming performances from Rowan Elbadry, who participated in the 50 free with a runner-up time of 23.49.  The Vikings finished fourth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:46.90 to end day two of the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Conference Championship.

Head Coach Wally Morton spoke about the women's performance on the second day of the HL Conference Championships. "I was very pleased with finals tonight.  The key to every meet is getting as many people in the consolation heats and in the finals.  We clearly could've done a better job this morning, but we still had some great performances this morning positioning people in where they needed to be and that includes diving.  Sammie Sposet could have arguably won the event, unfortunately didn't make it in the top eight. It's so important in the preliminaries to dive well and to swim well.  Both of those things presented some challenges for us in the finals, but the team came back in the finals and performed extremely well," said Morton.

"The swimmers that always step up in the swimming events were their again.  Rowan Elbadry got second in the 50 free, just getting touched out.  That's wonderful because her mother was here, her brothers were here.  They came all the way from Alexandria, Egypt to see her swim.  She is having so much fun with the meet and she also anchored the 400 medley relay.  Alex Johansson also swims very, very well.  In the 500 free Jodi Turk had her best time.  She made it into the finals and moved up in her places.  She went under five minutes and that was very notable too.  Overall, I am very pleased with how we have swam.  We have a lot to get excited about, a lot to be proud of.  We have our two longest days in these next two days and that's where your depth of your team comes in.  This is an opportunity for others to step up and perform and be an important part of what we are doing.  It was an incredible night of swimming and the swimmers that were lighting it up was Rowan Elbadry, who has been lighting it up all year and continues to perform at a very high level."

Cleveland State will be back in the pool on Friday for the third day of the HL Championships beginning at 10:00 a.m. with prelims.  The finals will take place at 5:30 p.m.  The scheduled events are as follows for Friday, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, men's 1-meter diving, and the 800 free relay.
