TRUJILLO ALTO, Puerto Rico - The Cleveland State women's swimming team had 22 swimmers compete in the prestigious 10th Anniversary Copa Coqui swim meet at the Encantada Sports Center Facility.
Head Coach Wally Morton talked about CSU's performance in Puerto Rico. "I was pleased with the effort, enthusiasm, and focus at the meet. It was a unique experience being part of the Puerto Rico culture in the sport. Our team bonding and spirit is improving," said Morton.
The women were led by Alex Johansson who swam in the 50 yard freestyle, and Rowan Elbadry who swam in the 100 freestyle. Johansson finished seventh with a time of 28.48. Elbadry had a superb race in the 100 free, finishing fourth (1:00.86). In the 500 free relay (Elbadry, Morris, Tamas, Kopacko) the Vikings finished fourth with an excellent time of 4:52.33.
Morton talked also about the great experience for his swimmers. "The Copa Coqui Meet is one of the most unique swimming meets in college swimming. It celebrates the Puerto Rican culture in a fun way against some of the top schools in NCAA swimming. Our goal is to represent Cleveland State and have fun doing it," said Morton.
The Vikings will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 17, as CSU will host Gannon University at Robert F. Busby Natatorium. Swimming events will begin at 4:00 p.m.
