INDIANOPOLIS- For the first time this season Cleveland State Viking's senior Alice Sommerville (Methven, New Zealand) was named the Horizon League's female `Swimmer of the Week' this week.

Sommerville was dominant this past weekend, earning three first place finishes on Saturday against the University of Akron in a close 144-156 Viking loss. The senior took home first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.95) and 200 breaststroke (2:22.87), as well as the 100 butterfly (56.63). She also teamed up with Nikki KolisJoanna Olsson, and Gretchen Hestley to take home third in the 200 medley relay (1:48.67).

Sommerville has been strong for the Vikings all year long, and currently leads the team this season in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.52), 200 breaststroke (2:19.89), and 200 IM (2:05.79). The 200 breaststroke time is also a new school record.

Head Coach Wally Morton knows he is working with one of the best swimmers in program history in Sommerville.

"Alice Sommerville is one of the greatest swimmers in the history of our program," Morton said. "What makes her so special is she's a focused competitor that loves to win. It doesn't happen by accident, every day she pushes herself to her ultimate limit both psychologically and physically."

Outside of the pool the senior is just as impressive on the academic side of things.

"She's one of the top students in civil engineering at Cleveland State in terms of her performance," Morton added on the well-rounded Sommerville.
