CLEVELAND - Cleveland State, in association with the American Cancer Society, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and the Horizon League, has designated Friday, May 9 as "Strike Out Cancer Day" at the Horizon League Softball Championship. CSU is hosting the championship from May 8-10 at Viking Field.

"This is a great opportunity for people to enjoy a great event such as the Horizon League Championship and at the same time make a difference in the lives of others," said CSU Head Coach Julie Jones. "I am excited that we can be a part of an event like this."

Pledge cards will be distributed prior to the start of each the day's six games. Fans will be encouraged to make donations based on the combined total of strikeouts recorded in all of the Horizon League Championship games played that day. Play begins at 9:00 a.m. with games following at 11, 1, 3, 5 and 7.

The "Strike Out" Cancer program is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The program exists to leverage the community leadership and celebrity of our country's fastpitch softball coaches to raise cancer awareness and reduce cancer risk through educational programs, while raising funds for American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy and patient services programs.

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service. Founded in 1913 and with national headquarters in Atlanta, the Society has 17 regional Divisions and local offices in 3,400 communities involving millions of volunteers across the United States.
