Softball Schedule Altered At Phoenix Classic

Softball Schedule Altered At Phoenix Classic

March 10, 2002

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Despite the diligent, day-long efforts of Elon University and the Burlington Recreation & Parks Department, all of Saturday's Inaugural Phoenix Classic softball action was halted due to rain. Cleveland State's game with Maryland-Baltimore County was one of the postponed games.

Saturday's schedule was postponed and altered throughout the day, but play was never able to actually begin. With the loss of an entire day, bracket play has been cancelled and a new Sunday slate has been created.

The Vikings, 1-1, will now play Maryland-Baltimore County at 11 a.m. Sunday and then meet Rutgers at 7 p.m. CSU, 1-1, lost to Harvard 5-3 on Friday afternoon but rebounded to beat Appalachian State 9-1 in the evening.

The Phoenix Classic brought 16 NCAA Division I institutions from 10 different states to Burlington for three days. A combined 42 games were originally scheduled Friday-Sunday. All games are being played at Burlington City Park.
