Youngstown, OH-The Cleveland State softball team opens play in the 2024 Horizon League Softball Tournament on Wednesday against IUPUI. The Vikings are the third seed in the six-team bracket and take on the sixth-seeded Jaguars in the first round. The game begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Youngstown State Softball Complex. The Penguins are the top seed and will host all tournament games after winning the regular season championship. 

The winner of Wednesday's game advances to Thursday's semifinal game against no. 2 seed Oakland. The loser will play again on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in an elimination game against the loser of the opening game between NKU and Robert Morris. 

Four student-athletes were named to the postseason All-Horizon League Teams yesterday following a vote among the nine league head coaches. Melissa Holzopfel and Brooke Albaugh were named to the first team. Becky Hurosky and Emma Gilkerson earned second team honors. Holzopfel was named to the first team as both a pitcher and a position player, becoming the first player in league history to be named to the first team in both categories.
