Cleveland State Softball Set for Road Series at Detroit Mercy

Detroit, MI-The Cleveland State softball team travels to Detroit for a three-game weekend series against Detroit Mercy starting on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings and Titans will meet for a single game on Saturday scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+. 

The Vikings are 8-4 in Horizon League play after a three-game midweek sweep of Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday and Wednesday. Cleveland State has won three of four league series to start the season and sits tied for third in the Horizon League standings.

Fresh off winning Horizon League Pitcher of the Week honors last week, Melissa Holzopfel continued her stellar play in the series against Purdue Fort Wayne. Holzopfel tossed the 13th no hitter in program history in the series opener on Tuesday in leading the Vikings to an 11-1 win. Holzopfel struck out 12 hitters and currently ranks second in the league with 92 total strikeouts this season. 

Detroit Mercy is 2-27 and 1-8 in the Horizon League coming into this weekend's action. The Titans dropped their first seven league contests before claiming their first league win on Wednesday against Oakland. Cleveland State swept a three-game series with the Titans last season.
