Cleveland State Softball Drops Two on Friday to Green Bay

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State softball team dropped its opening two contests on Friday to Green Bay by final scores of 10-2 and 6-3.

GAME ONE
Green Bay recorded the first five runs in the first game of Friday's doubleheader, holding a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth frame.

With two outs, Alexa Sieger reached first base on a Phoenix error. Courtney Fernette smashed a two-run homerun to dead center to put the Vikings on the board.

Green Bay tacked on five more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 10-2 victory in game one.

Torrie Jenkins, who started in the circle for the Vikings, recorded the loss after throwing 3.0 innings and allowing five runs. Alexa Sieger came in relief for Jenkins, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing three runs in her first-ever collegiate start. Sieger fanned one batter while allowing no walks. 

GAME TWO
Much like the first game, Green Bay jumped out to a six-run lead in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the first and third inning.

The bats came alive for the Green and White in the bottom of the seventh, as Cleveland State saw three batters cross home plate.

Jenna Deang led the inning off by slapping a double down the left field line before Kiera Frascone reached first base on an error. Next up for the Vikes was Aly Packish who smacked a double to center field, scoring Packish and advancing Frascone to third base.

Mackenzie Tucker then grounded out to first base, scoring Frascone and advancing Packish to third. Alexa Sieger knocked in the final run of the game, singling to shortstop and scoring Packish.

Jenna Watts registered the loss, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing three runs and striking out one batter. Sieger appeared in the circle in game two for the Vikings, pitching one inning.

UP NEXT
Cleveland State will be back at it for two more on Saturday, as the Vikes and Phoenix will conclude their two-day, four-game outing. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
