GAME RECAP

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Hanna Griffin allowed just two earned runs over six innings, but Cleveland State could not get its offense untracked as the Vikings fell to Youngstown State 3-0 in the series opener between the two teams on Friday night at the Youngstown State Softball Complex.

Griffin worked all 6.0 innings for Cleveland State and permitted seven hits and two earned runs. With the loss, Griffin dropped to 6-11 on the season.

Addy Jarvis, who improved to 10-8 on the season, limited the Vikings to four hits on the evening and struck out 10 batters.

Cleveland State, which dropped to 10-24 overall and 3-7 in the Horizon League, got base hits from Sydney Bajusz, Hallie Ward, Gabby Shackelford and Bailee Gray.

Youngstown State, which improved to 18-20 on the season and 6-2 in league play, got all the offense it would need in the third inning as it scored three times.

The Vikings best scoring threat came in the top of the fifth inning.

Bajusz walked to lead off the inning and Shackelford singled to right two batters later. Gray singled on a bunt, which advanced the runners to second and third but a fly out ended the Vikings scoring opportunity.

The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday (April 13) beginning at 1 p.m. at the Youngstown State Softball Complex.
