Vikings Split Pair of Games With Niagara

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Macy Kaisk threw a complete game with six strikeouts to lead Cleveland State to a 3-2 win over Niagara in the first game of today's non-league doubleheader. 

The Purple Eagles won game two, 9-0, in six innings.

CSU is now 10-17 this year, while Niagara is 7-18.

In the opener, Niagara took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first, but Kait Gairing's RBI single in the second inning scored Mackenzie Joecken to tie the game at 1-1. Niagara came right back with a run in the third and it stayed that way until CSU plated two runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead.

Joecken had an RBI fielder's choice for the first run, while Olivia Jones stole home with the game-winning run as part of a double steal with Joecken taking second.

Kaisk was strong in the circle all afternoon, limiting Niagara to two runs, one earned, on seven hits with six strikeouts to earn her second win of the season.

Gairing finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Paige Hartley, Jones, Ries, Joecken and Hanna Breeden all had one hit.

Breeden had two of CSU's five hits in game two, while Marissa Marcelli, Bailee Gray and Ries also had hits.

CSU is back in action this weeked when the Vikings host Green Bay for three games to open Horizon League play.
