Vikings Blank Maryland-Eastern Shore, 2-0, to Complete Perfect Weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mackenzie Joecken fired a complete game, three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Cleveland State scored two runs in the sixth inning to defeat Maryland-Eastern Shore, 2-0, and finish the North Carolina A&T Aggie Invitational with a perfect 4-0 record.

The Vikings, who ran their win streak to seven straight games, improved to 7-2 this year.

Joecken, who improved to 4-0 this year in the circle, was dominant all morning, giving up just two singles and a double, while striking out 10 and not allowing a walk. She retired the side in order four times and no runner made it past second base in the game.

The Vikings were also limited to just three hits, but managed to plate two runs in the sixth inning, which was more than enough support for Joecken.

Kait Gairing got things started with a one out double and after a strikeout, Gairing stole third base and came in to score the first run of the game on Emery Sipe's single. After Taylor Miokovic drew a walk, Riley Ries singled and pinch runner Paige Hartley came in to score on an error.

The Hawks had their biggest threat in the seventh with a one out double, but Joecken got a strikeout and a groundout to end the game.

The Vikings are back in action next Friday through Sunday (Feb. 23-25) with five games at the Belmont Tournament in Nashville, Tenn.
