Vikings Sweep Green Bay to Conclude 2017 Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Mackenzie Joecken hit a home run in each game and pitched a complete game shutout in game two to help Cleveland State sweep Green Bay in a doubleheader on the final day of the 2017 season.

The Vikings won the opener, 8-7, scoring all seven runs over the final three innings, and earned a 1-0 win in the nightcap on Joecken's solo homer and complete game effort in the circle.

In today's opener, the Phoenix jumped out to a 6-0 lead with three runs in the first inning and three more in the second. CSU got on the board in the second on a sacrifice fly from Sofia Johantgen, the lone senior on the roster who was honored in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Day.

CSU sliced the deficit to 6-4 with three runs in the fourth as Joecken led off with a homer and Kait Gairing delivered a two-run single. Mel Woodard's RBI single in the fifth got the Vikings within one run at 6-5 and after Green Bay added a run in the sixth to exted the lead to 7-5, CSU scored three times in the bottom of the sixth as Hanna Breeden had a two-run single and Joecken added a sacrifice fly for the game-winning RBI.

Kristin Catalano worked the final 2 2/3 innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits with two stikeouts to earn the win

Joecken was the story of game two, hitting a solo homer in the fourth for the lone run of the game, and striking out seven in a complete game victory.
