Tone Drives in Six Runs, but CSU Drops Series Finale at Youngstown State, 8-7

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Aubrie Tone drove in six runs - tied for the second most in a game in school history - but Cleveland State dropped the series finale at Youngstown State, 8-7, on Sunday afternoon.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, but was postponed due to rain.

Tone became the sixth player in program history to drive in six runs in a game and was just one RBI shy of tying Erica McNew's school record of seven runs batted in during a game. McNew did it on Feb. 13, 2015, vs. Florida A&M.

Tone finished 2-for-4 with a run and six RBI, while Hanna Breeden also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kait Gairing went 2-for-3 and scored a run and Mackenzie Joecken scored two runs.

The Vikings scored three time in the first as Breeden singled in a run and Tone had a two-run single. The Penguins came back with a run in the bottom of the first and three more in the second to take a 4-3 lead, but Tone hit a grand slam in the third to give CSU a 7-4 lead.

YSU answered with a run in the third to cut the CSU lead to 7-5 and plated three runs in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead before stopping a CSU rally in the sixth when the Vikings put runners on second and third with one out.

CSU closes the 2017 season when the Vikings host Green Bay for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday (May 5-6) at Viking Field.
