Vikings Host Valparaiso for Three Game Series This Weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State remains home this weekend as the Vikings host Valparaiso for a three-game Horizon League series on Friday and Saturday (April 14-15) at Viking Field.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday with the first game slated for 1:00 pm and conclude the series with a single game on Saturday at 12:00 pm.

The Vikings were last in action last weekend, dropping three games to Wright State in the first outdoor home games of the season. WSU won the series finale, 2-1, in nine innings, the second time CSU went into extra innings this year.

Sophomore Macy Kaisk was outstanding in the circle in the series finale. Making just her fourth start of the season, she worked all nine innings, giving up just two runs on eight hits with a strikeout. She kept the Raiders off the board until the seventh inning when they scored to take a 1-0 lead.

However, junior Mackenzie Joecken led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run to tie the contest at 1-1. The Raiders won it with a solo homer in the ninth.

Kaisk, who had worked just seven innings all season prior to Sunday's game vs. WSU, leads the team witha 3.94 ERA.

Joecken has been CSU's top hitter this year, batting .306 with seven runs, four doubles, four homers and 17 RBI. She has also made 16 appearances in the circle, working a team-high 76.1 innings.

Sophomore Riley Ries, a member of the Horizon League All-Freshman team last year, is hitting .333 in nine League games with a pair of RBI, while sophomore Bailee Gray is batting .316 with a pair of doubles in League contests.

CSU returns to action with a three-game series at Northern Kentucky next weekend playing a single game on Friday (April 21) and a doubleheader on Saturday (April 22).
