McNew & Knight Claim Horizon League Weekly Awards

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State senior Erica McNew (Canton, Ohio) has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, while senior Susan Knight (Milan, Ohio) has been honored as the League's Pitcher of the Week.

The League office made the announcement on Monday afternoon.

The duo claimed the weekly awards after helping lead CSU to five wins in six road games last week as the Vikings took two of three games at Oakland and swept a three-game series from Detroit.

McNew earned Player of the Week honors after hitting .563 (9-16) with eight runs, two doubles, two homers and eight RBI last week. She posted a 1.063 slugging percentage and a .720 on-base percentage and had multiple hits in four of the six games and drew nine walks over the six contests.

Entering the final weekend of regular season play, McNew leads the nation in on-base percentage (.667) and is second in batting average (.500) and fifth in slugging percentage (.914). She has 35 runs, nine doubles, 13 home runs and 47 RBI.

McNew ranks second in school history with 49 career home runs and 146 runs batted in, just three RBI shy of moving into first place.

Knight picked up Pitcher of the Week honors after going 4-0 with a 1.40 ERA last week. She pitched three complete games and also picked up a win by pitching the final four innings of a 10 inning win at Oakland. Knight gave up just eight runs (five earned) and stuck out 24 in her 25 innings of work.

Knight has won her last four starts, all complete games, and leads the team with 74 strikeouts.

CSU closes the regular season with a three-game series against Green Bay this weekend at Viking Field with the first game slated for Friday (May 6) at 3:00 pm and a doubleheader on Saturday (May 7) at 12:00 pm.

The Vikings are 11-10 in the Horizon League and have won 10 of their last 13 games.
