Vikings Drop Series Opener at Wright State

FAIRBORN, Ohio - The Cleveland State softball team dropped the series opener at Wright State, 13-5, in six innings on Friday afternoon.

The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader today, but the second game was postponed due to inclement weather. The squads will now play two games on Sunday (April 10) starting at 12:00 pm to conclude the series.

Erica McNew and Alyson Broschk both went 2-for-3 today, while Emma Nicholas and Riley Ries both drove in two runs and McNew had one RBI.

The Vikings scored three runs in the first inning as Ries had a two-run double and McNew added an RBI single. WSU scored a run in the bottom half of the first to pull within 3-1 and broke the game open with six runs in the third and another tally in the fourth to open up an 8-3 lead.

A two-run single from Nicholas in the sixth pulled the Vikings within three runs at 8-5, but the Raiders responded with five runs in the bottom half of the sixth to end the game.
