Softball Continues League Slate at Wright State This Weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State softball team will continue Horizon League play at Wright State this weekend in a three game series.

Due to forecasted inclement weather, the series has been altered with the teams playing a doubleheader on Friday (April 8) at 2:00 pm and a single game on Saturday (April 9) at 2:00 pm.

The Vikings are 8-20 overall and are 1-2 in the League after dropping two of three games to UIC at home last weekend to start the Horizon League schedule.

Wright State will enter the weekend with a 20-15 overall record and is 5-1 in the League. The Raiders swept a nonconference twinbill against Marshall on Wednesday. In League play, WSU has swept Green Bay and took two out of three versus Detroit.

In game two against UIC last weekend, an 8-7 CSU win in eight innings, freshman Riley Ries hit her second home run of the season, a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

Both of Ries' homers this year have been grand slams.

In the same game, Erica McNew hit the game winning walk-off single to centerfield that scored Susan Knight from second base. In the circle, Kristin Catalano earned the win by working the last two innings and striking out four.

Mackenzie Joecken went 3-for-9 in the three games against UIC, including a home runs and three RBIs, while McNew had two hits in five at-bats. She also drew six walks in the series.

McNew remains second in the League in batting average (.447) and slugging percentage (.724), while  Katelind Phillips is fourth in the league in hits with 35.

Following this weekend's action, the Vikings will return home to play Youngstown State in a three game series with a single game on Tuesday (April 12) at 3:00 pm ET and a doubleheader on Wednesday (April 13) with games at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm ET.
