Vikings Fall to Miami (OH), 5-1, in First Game of Mizuno Classic

STILLWATER, Okla. - Katelind Phillips had three hits and Susan Knight added a solo homer, but Miami (OH) used four runs over a three inning span to claim a 5-1 victory over Cleveland State on Friday afternoon in the first game of the Mizuno Classic at Cowgirl Stadium.

The Vikings fell to 4-10 this year, while the Redhawks improved to 8-8.

Phillips finished 3-for-4, while Erica McNew went 2-for-2 as the duo accounted for five of CSU's six hits. 

Knight gave the Vikings an early 1-0 lead with a one out, solo homer in the bottom of the first inning.

However, Miami (OH) used a single run in the third to tie the contest at 1-1 and plated two more in the fourth and another run in the fifth to open up a 4-1 lead. Lauren Anderson hit a solo home run with one out in the seventh inning to exend the Miami (OH) lead to 5-1.

Knight worked 6 1/3 innings, giving up five runs, but only two were earned, while striking out four.

CSU continues play in the Mizuno Classic with two games on Saturday (March 12). The Vikings will play Miami (OH) at 1:00 pm ET and Oklahoma State at 3:30 pm ET.
