Vikings Fall, 2-1, at Coastal Carolina in Eight Innings

CONWAY, SC - The Cleveland State softball team dropped its final game of the Kickin' Chicken Classic on Sunday, falling to host Coastal Carolina, 2-1, in eight innings.

The Vikings are now 4-5 this year.

The Chants got on the board first with a run in the first inning and the Vikings tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the third. Katelind Phillips had a one out double and after Susan Knight walked, Erica McNew drove in Phillips with an RBI single.

Using international rules for extra innings, the CCU pinch runner Angela Buccilli moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a one out single from Alexis Alvino.

Riley Ries finished 3-for-4, while McNew tallied two hits and CSU's lone RBI.

Macy Kaisk took her first loss of the season (2-1), working all 7 1/3 innings. She gave up just two runs (one earned) and struck out three.

The Vikings are back in action from Friday through Sunday (Feb. 26-28) for five games at the Louisville Red & Black Classic.
