Vikings Fall in League Opener to Wright State, 5-1

FAIRBORN, Ohio - Cynthia Woodard hit her league-leading 11th home run, but Cleveland State dropped its Horizon League opener, 5-1, to Wright State on Friday afternoon.

The Vikings were the home team as the games were moved from Cleveland to Fairborn due to unplayable field conditions at Viking Field.

CSU fell to 12-9 this year, while the Raiders moved to 5-17 overall.

WSU scored two runs in the third inning and added three more in the sixth to take a 5-0 lead. Woodard got the Vikings on the board with a two-out homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Woodard, Susan Knight and Erica McNew had one hit each for the Vikings, including a triple from McNew, as Montana Wear limited CSU to just three hits.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
