Broschk Drives in Four in 5-1 Win Over UIC

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Alyson Broschk had a double and home run and drove in four runs to lead Cleveland State to a 5-1 win over UIC in a Horizon League softball game on Monday afternoon at Viking Field.

The game was delayed for almost two hours due to rain and the second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to rain.

The win improved CSU to 19-13 overall and 3-3 in the league, while UIC slipped to 10-19 overall and 4-5 in the Horizon League.

CSU took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run double from Broschk in the first inning. Hannah Yoe, who had a one out single, and Erica McNew, who doubled, scored the runs.

The Flames cut the deficit to 2-1 with a single tally in the fourth, but CSU came right back with three runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.

Cynthia Woodard began the rally with a one out double and came around to score on McNew's second double of the game. Broschk followed with a two-run homer to left center to break the game open.

It was more than enough offensive support for Susan Knight, who fired a complete game to improve to 9-10 this season. Knight, who gave up just one unearned run, scattered four hits and fanned five.

The Vikings are back in action when CSU hosts Green Bay for a three-game league series on Friday and Saturday at Viking Field. The series opener is slated for Friday at 3:00 p.m.
