THE FIRST PITCH:
• Cleveland State returns to Horizon League action with five games from Saturday through Monday (April 12-14).
• The Vikings play a three-game series at Valparaiso this weekend with a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
• CSU returns home to host UIC in a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader on Monday in the first games outside at Viking Field.
• The Vikings are 17-11 overall and 1-1 in the league, while Valparaiso is 13-23 overall and 5-2 in the league. UIC is 10-15 overall and 4-1 in league play.
• CSU has won five straight games and eight of the last nine overall.
• The Vikings have been forced to play 10 games in the CSU Dome this year due to snow, rain and cold weather, going 9-1 in those contests.
• The Vikings are 7-3 in one run games this year and have gone 3-1 in extra innings contests.
IN THE CIRCLE:
• CSU's pitching staff has the second lowest ERA in the league at 2.90.
• Alex Radjen (2.19), Susan Knight (2.76) and Sara Shields (2.96) all have ERA's under 3.00 and rank fourth, sixth and seventh in the league, respectively.
• The trio has combined to claim four of the nine Horizon League Pitcher of the Week honors, including the last two by Radjen.
• Radjen struck out a career-high 12 batters in a 4-0 shutout of St. Francis in game two of a doubleheader on April 3.
• Shields threw a no-hitter in a five-inning win over Quinnipiac (March 7).
