Vikings Fall to Maine, 2-1, in Florida

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Cleveland State scored the first run of the game, but Maine responded with two runs in the fourth to claim a 2-1 victory over the Vikings on Monday afternoon.

CSU fell to 10-9, while Maine improved to 5-5 this year.

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the third as Janessa Rivera Keahi moved to second when Nena Doran drew a two-out walk and came around to score on Cynthia Woodard's single.

It was Woodard's team-leading 16th RBI of the year.

The Black Bears came back with two runs in the fourth with what proved to be the game-winning runs. After CSU retired the first two batters of the inning, Maine used a double from Emily Fogel and she would score on Shelby Obert's single.

Obert, who advanced to second on the throw home, then scored the game-winning run on Maddie Moore's single.

Susan Knight was once again solid in the circle, going all six innings. She gave up just five hits and fanned five.

CSU concludes its Florida trip with a 1:15 p.m. contest against Boston U. on Tuesday. The Vikings defeated the Terriers, 5-3, as part of the USF Under Armour Classic on Saturday.
