THE FIRST PITCH:
• Cleveland State (7-6) heads to Clearwater, Fla., for the Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla., from March 6-11.
• CSU opens play with a doubleheader against Maine on Thursday (March 6). The Vikings will also play Villanova and Quinnipiac on Friday (March 7), Boston U. and Boston College on Wednesday (March 8), St. John's on Sunday (March 9) and Boston U. again on Tuesday (March 11).
• CSU plays the Netherlands National Team on Sunday (Mar. 9) at 11:15 a.m.
WOODARD ON A TEAR AT THE PLATE:
• Junior Cynthia Woodard has been on a tear at the plate in the early season, hitting .400 with 10 runs, five doubles, four homers and 12 RBI.
• She has a team-leading five multi-hit games, including two three hit games.
• At the Winthrop Invitational over the weekend, Woodard was 6-for-17 (.353) with six runs, two homers and six RBI, driving in three runs in two games.
BROSCHK GETS BIG HITS:
• Alyson Broschk was a key contributor in two CSU wins at Winthrop.
• In a 12-2 win over Gardner-Webb, Broschk hit two home runs and drove in four runs.
• Broschk delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly with one out in the eighth inning of a 2-1 victory over Robert Morris.
UP NEXT:
• The Vikings open Horizon League play with a three game series against UIC at Viking Field on March 22-23.
• The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a single game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at Viking Field.
