Toman Signs With Akron Racers

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Former Cleveland State softball standout Dara Toman (Westerville, Ohio), who was named the Horizon League Player of the Year this past season, has signed a contract for the 2013 National Pro Fastpitch season with the Akron Racers.

Racers Owner/General Manager Joey Arrietta made the announcement on Tuesday.

"I'm incredibly excited to add another Ohio native to the Akron Racers squad," Arrietta said in a release from the organization. "It's a dream of mine to put as many Ohio-born-and-raised young women on our team, and Dara represents the second of two outstanding players who will play for the Racers in 2013."

Toman will join Tess Sito (Elyria, Ohio) as the lone Ohio raised players on the squad. Sito and Toman formed a close friendship when the two were teammates at CSU from 2010-11. Sito was the Horizon League Player of the Year as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to Georgia.

Toman finished her brilliant four-year career by hitting .373 (53-142) with 39 runs, 11 doubles, four triples, 15 home runs and 38 runs batted in as a senior, earning Horizon League Player of the Year and second team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Midwest Region honors.

Toman ranked second in the Horizon League in home runs, tied for fourth in RBI and fifth in batting average.

Her 2013 numbers helped Toman rewrite both the Horizon League and Cleveland State record books as she owns the Horizon League and Cleveland State home run record (60) and the CSU career records for runs batted in (154), runs scored (145), and total bases record (453).

She also has played in and started the most games in CSU history, at 214 and 213 respectively.

Toman was a three-time all-league and two-time NFCA All-Region selection.
