CLEVELAND, OHIO- The Cleveland State bats were able to come together at the right time and freshman Susan Knighthad two strong showings on the mound as the Cleveland State Vikings picked up their first two wins of the season Saturday, taking down Bucknell and Canisius, 3-0 and 7-4 respectively.

Game one of the day for CSU was an impressive one for the home team as they shut out Bucknell 3-0. Knight pitched all seven innings for the home team, allowing no runs on just three hits with seven strikeouts.

Knight's performance all day long really impressed her Head Coach Angie Nicholson.

"She's so composed, she fields her position well, does a nice job," Nicholson said. "She's not overpowering but she creates the ground ball outs and does what she's got to do."

"If our defense does the job behind her she'll be very successful over the next four years," she added.

On the offensive side of things another freshman stepped up in game one to help Knight's shutout as Alyson Broschkled CSU with two hits including a home run to help get the win.

Game two was a little more back and forth as CSU fell behind 2-0 to Canisius, before batting back and taking a 7-4 win.

A balanced effort led the Viking offense as seven different players got at least one hit, with five of those seven picking up two hits on the day.

Two of those hitters were able to push across multiple runs from the batter's box as Broschk once again shined with three RBI's with Cynthia Woodardchipping in two of her own.

Overall Nicholson was extremely happy with the way her team performed, especially on the offensive side of things.

"They did a fantastic job coming through with hits, and timely hits, we've been missing that," said Nicholson. "I felt very confident in the lineup, if one didn't come through the next one did and it's nice to have that feeling."

Nicholson knows that she still has a young group that is learning, and they may have found something they can build on.

"These girls are coming together, as I said after last weekend it's going to take time with this team but today was a good starting point or them," she said following the perfect 2-0 day.

CSU will be back on the field tomorrow to close the CSU Dome Invitational when they face Bucknell at 2:00 p.m. followed by St. Bonaventure at 4:00 p.m. back in the Krenzler Field Dome.
