Women's Soccer Honored With an NSCAA Team Academic Award

CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the fifth straight year, the Cleveland State women's soccer team has been honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America by being the recipient of an NSCAA Team Academic Award.

"I am very proud of this award and I think it's an outstanding accomplishment for this program," head coach Derrek Falor said. "In our program, we stress the importance of developing in life and as a person as much as athletic accomplishments and to have our team rewarded for that is a great feeling."

To earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award a team's combined grade point average must be 3.0 or higher for a full academic year. The Vikings' GPA for the 2010-11 season was 3.34.

"It's one thing to say that your team has a good GPA, but it's another thing to have an award that shows for it," Falor said. "Our players have always worked hard both on and off the field and this kind of award shows the level of student-athlete we have in the program."

The Vikings set a school-record by winning 10 games for the first time in the eight-year history of the program, finishing the season with a 10-7-2 mark.

CSU advanced to the league tournament and hosted a first round match for the second straight season.
