CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the fourth straight year the CSU women's soccer team has been honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America by being the recipient of an NSCAA Team Academic Award. The NSCAA made the announcement on Wednesday (Nov. 17).

"It's awesome we can win an award like this," head coach Derrek Falor said. "Too often players are thought of as `athlete students' instead of `student athletes.' In our program we emphasize life development as much as athletic accomplishments, and to have our team rewarded for that is great."

To earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award a team's combined grade point average must be 3.0 or higher for a full academic year. The Vikings' GPA for the 2009-10 season was 3.37.

"It's one thing to say your team has a good GPA, it's another to have an award to show for it," Falor said. "Our players have always worked hard, and following the success we had on the field this season, it's a nice award to receive."

The Vikings set a record for wins in a season this past year, going 9-8-2 and finishing the regular season third in the Horizon League. CSU lost in the first round of the Horizon League Championship, 2-1, to Detroit.
