CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Work has begun on the $2.2 million project to Cleveland State's Krenzler Field that will add an all-purpose FieldTurf playing surface and a removable air-supported dome that will cover it during the winter months.

The improvements are expected to be completed by the start of the men's and women's soccer preseason practice in early August with the dome being put in place when the 2005 season is completed in November.

"The wait has been well worth it," CSU athletic director Lee Reed said. "Once this project is completed, we will have a state-of-the-art playing surface for our soccer programs and an indoor facility that all of our sports can use during the winter months."

The project was originally slated to be completed in the Fall of 2004 but delayed because of engineering concerns over how to properly design the anchoring system for the inflatable dome.

Located on the corner of E. 18th and Chester on the CSU campus, Krenzler Field has served as the home for Cleveland State soccer since 1985.
