Wieand Named To All-Ohio Second Team

Jan. 23, 2008

CLEVELAND, Ohio - After setting a school record for goals and points in a season, Cleveland State junior forward Jennifer Wieand (Alden, NY) has been named to the All-Ohio second team in voting of the head coaches in Ohio conducted by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.

Wieand becomes the third Viking to earn All-Ohio honors, joining teammate Heather Clapacs, who was an honorable mention choice in botu 2004 and 2005.

"I think Jennifer's selection to the All-Ohio team continues to honor her for all of the hard work that she put into improving her game after suffering a devastating knee injury in 2006," CSU head coach Derrek Falor said. "To be mentioned as one of the top 22 players in Ohio is a validation of how much we relied on her this past season."

Wieand tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee in the summer of 2006, forcing her to miss the entire season. She came back this last fall to start every match, setting school records for goals (8), points (19), shots )63) and shots on goal (38) to help the Vikings go 5-14-1 and finish in eighth place in the Horizon League.

A second team All-Horizon League selection, Wieand ranks second in school history in goals (11), assists (6) and points (28).
