CHICAGO, Ill. -- Cleveland State's first road league match of the season ended on a sour note as Loyola's Cynthia Morote-Ariza scored all three Rambler goals as part of a 3-0 Loyola victory.

The loss drops Cleveland State to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in league play while Loyola improves to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in league action.

"Although the sore was lopsided, I thought we gave a better effort tonight than we did last Sunday against Green Bay," CSU head coach Derrek Falor said. "Our offense created some opportunities and was able to control the ball for a decent portion of the match.

"Defensively, we held our shape well and we were able to keep Loyola away from the goal most of the night. Unfortunately, we didn't really have an answer for Morote-Ariza, who was able to convert just about every opportunity she had."

Morote-Ariza didn't wait long to open the scoring, bending a free kick from the right side around the Viking wall and into the corner of the goal just 6:52 into the contest. She made it 2-0 just before half when she took a pass from Brooke Schuppan and finished from six yards out in the 32nd minute.

With another tough road match coming up Sunday at Wright State, Falor opted to replace freshman goalkeeper Kelly Zinkiewich at the intermission, inserting Shannon Saunders for the second half. Zinkiewich made three saves in the opening stanza while Saunders made two in her 45 minutes.

Loyola finished the scoring just four minutes into the second half when Morete-Ariza scored her eighth goal of the season on a blast from the top of the box.

Despite being outshot 20-3, the Vikings would hold the Ramblers off the scoreboard the rest of the night.

"I thought that we put together a decent effort defensively against a pretty good team," Falor said.

The Vikings return to action on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 7) when CSU travels to Fairborn, Ohio to face Wright State beginning at 1:00 p.m.
