"We did a very nice job of getting the ball to our scorers on the outside," head coach Derrek Falor said. "That's something we've needed to do better, and tonight it produced a goal for us."
The second half was very slow with no team taking control after the Vikings controlled play for most of the first 45 minutes. CSU outshot the Falcons, 11-5, with a 7-2 edge in shots on goal in the first half and had several long stretches with constant pressure on the Notre Dame defense.
The Vikings ended up edging Notre Dame in shots (14-8) and shots on goal (9-3).
"There were a lot of things we could have done better, but a lot of that had to do with how hard Notre Dame played," Falor said. "Our defense was better and we cut down on our mistakes. Those are two definite things we can take away from this match."
Conway had a team-high four shots while Wagner and junior Heather Clapacs each registered three.
Sophomore goalie Erin Withrow got the shutout, making three saves in 90 minutes in goal. Notre Dame's Elyse Williamson played all 90 minutes in goal and stopped eight shots.
The Vikings have two more home matches this weekend, with Loyola coming to Krenzler Field on Friday (Oct. 6) at 7:00 p.m. and UW-Milwaukee on Sunday (Oct. 8) at 12:00 p.m.
