CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Sylvia Olsby scored just 2:40 into the contest and the Viking defense took over after that, limiting the Titans to just 12 shots as CSU snapped an eight-match losing streak with a 1-0 win over Detroit on Friday night at Krenzler Field.

The win, the Vikings first over Detroit in six all-time meetings, allowed CSU to improve to 2-9 on the year and 1-1 in Horizon League play while Detroit slipped to 2-8-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.

"It was good that we were the team to jump out quickly for once," CSU head coach Derrek Falor said. "We played pretty well in our two matches last week and combined with playing at home, we came out on fire tonight.

"It has been a difficult first month for us but I can really see this team coming together. It isn't too late to have an impact on the Horizon League race so as long as we can continue to play well, we can still meet our goal of an upper division finish."

Although the start of the match was delayed for 20 minutes because of lightning in the area, the Vikings came out ready.

Marley Greiner had two good scoring chances in the opening 1:14, just missing on a breakaway just 24 seconds into the contest and then blasting a shot moments later that Detroit goalie Joanna Hinde snared.

The Vikings continued applying pressure and got on the scoreboard in the third minute when Greiner fed Olsby on the right side of the box and Olsby ripped off a shot that beat Hinde low and to the left, sneaking just inside the far post to give CSU a 1-0 lead.

The assist marked the third straight match that Greiner has scored at least one point as she tallied goals in matches against both IUPUI and Wright State last week.

"Marley has really developed into one of our offensive leaders," Falor said. "She really applied the pressure early and created some opportunities for herself, one of which paid off."

The Titans eventually picked up their level of play, but CSU junior goalie Kelly Zinkiewich refused to break, making six saves to record the shutout.

"Kelly had some problems early in the season, but she really has been solid over the last two weeks," Falor said. "She came off her line well tonight, distributed the ball well on her kicks and made some fantastic saves. She was the difference between a win and a loss."

The Vikings took nine shots in the match, including five on goal, while six of Detroit's 12 shots were on the mark.

CSU returns to action on Sunday when the Vikings host Loyola beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
