DETROIT, Mich. -- Four different Titans scored goals as the Cleveland State dropped to 0-1-1 in Horizon League play by falling at Detroit, 4-0, on Friday afternoon.

The loss drops CSU to 4-6-1 overall while Detroit improves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

"We played as poorly today as we have in any match over the last three years," CSU head coach Derrek Falor said. "There was no portion of our performance that I felt played at a level that we needed to be at in order to win.

"We played so hard against Wright State last week and came away with a big tie, only to give anything we earned back this afternoon. It isn't going to get any easier for us because the majority of the teams that we play at home are at the top of the league while the teams we play on the road are picked to finish at the bottom. If we can't win matches on the road, then we won't finish any higher than we did last year."

The match got off to a bad start when Viking goalie Kelly Zinkiewich was kicked in the head on a play in the opening minutes of the match. She remained in the contest but left just before half after allowing two relatively simple goals and making three saves. She is unlikely to be available when CSU hosts Loyola on Sunday.

"Losing Kelly hurt because she has been so steady in goal this season and has done a great job of organizing the defense," Falor added.

Detroit took a 1-0 lead at the 19:16 mark when Trina Kochanski took a cross from the left wing off a direct kick and snuck in past Zinkiewich from inside the six-yard mark. The Titans made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute when Archana Wadhawan controlled a rebound of a missed Emily Kiely shot and redirected it into the net.

Sophomore Shannon Saunders replaced Zinkiewich in goal in the 37th minute and played the final 53:28 in goal, recording a pair of saves.

Detroit opened the second half scoring at the 66:39 mark when Kiely scored off a cornerkick from Stanski.

The Titans rounded out the scoring in the 71st minute when Alexandra Suschak emerged from a pile with the ball and scored from 10 yards out.

Detroit had a slim 11-8 lead in shots with Titan netminder Joanne Hinde making five saves

The Vikings return to action on Sunday (Oct. 5) when they host Loyola in an 11:00 a.m. match at Krenzler Field. It will be the first game of a doubleheader with the CSU men hosting Milwaukee beginning at 2:00 p.m.
