CLEVELAND, Ohio -- UW-Green Bay's Stephanie Gross scored a pair of goals, one coming on a penalty kick in the first half, as the Phoenix upended Cleveland State, 5-0, on Sunday at Krenzler Field.

The loss came on a day when the Cleveland State community celebrated the almost $3 million in renovations made over the course of the last year to Krenzler Field. Judge Alvin Krenzler, for whom the facility is named, was on hand for a pre-match brunch and he was honored in a ceremony before the contest.

"This was a very big day for the CSU women's soccer program," head coach Derrek Falor said. "The improvements that have been made to Krenzler Field over the course of the last year have truly made it one of the finest facilities in the country and it will help us to become a better team.

"Our players are aware of what Judge Krenzler's support has meant to soccer at CSU and it was nice to see him at Krenzler Field this afternoon."

On the field, UW-Green Bay controlled the pace of play for most of the match, owning a 25-11 advantage in shots. Viking goalkeeper Erin Withrow matched her career high with 11 saves, but it was not enough.

The Phoenix opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Sarah Oligney took a pass down the right side and scored from 15 yards out.

Eight minutes later, CSU was called for a foul inside the penalty box and Gross converted the penalty kick to put UW-Green Bay ahead, 2-0.

The score held until early in the second half when UWGB's Catherine Kadar scored off a rebound in front of the net at the 49:00 mark. The Phoenix would later added goals from Gross and Jennie Gorwitz within a four-minute span late in the contest to close out the scoring.

"We didn't play very well off the ball today," Falor said. "We did a nice job challenging for the ball, but we weren't in a position to take advantage when we won balls at midfield.

"Erin (Withrow) did another nice job in goal but unfortunately, play was concentrated on our defensive end so much that her play isn't reflected on the scoreboard. She has really improved on taking charge of her defenders and coming off the line to make plays.

Built in 1985 at a cost of almost $2 million, Krenzler Field had its natural grass surface replaced with a state-of-the-art FieldTurf surface this summer and the anchoring system added to put a removable air-supported dome over the facility during the winter months.

The loss dropped Cleveland State to 0-12 on the year and 0-2 in Horixon League play. UW-Green Bay improved to 5-6-1 overall and 2-2 in league action.

The Vikings remain at home this week for a pair of league contests. CSU will host defending Horizon League tournament champion Detroit on Friday (Oct. 7) and Butler on Sunday (Oct. 9).
