PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Cleveland State women's soccer team played nearly the entire first half to a scoreless tie in its 3-0 loss to Duquesne on Friday night at the Rooney Athletic Complex.

"I have to give a whole lot of credit to Duquesne," head coach Derrek Falor said. "They were a very good team who was very fast. I thought our defense did an excellent job, especially for the majority of the first half."

The Vikings kept the Dukes off the board until a goal in the 45th minute, just 50 seconds before halftime, which put CSU down by a goal at the intermission. Freshman Erin Withrow played the first half in goal and stopped five shots before letting up the marker to Martine Gilbert.

"I thought Erin [Withrow] had a solid first half," Falor said. "She took complete control of the box while she was in the match."

Allie Zajaros made her second straight appearance in goal during the second half, allowing two goals to Erica Carey including a penalty shot in the 58th minute. The Vikings and Dukes played a scoreless final 30 minutes.

"We gave everything we could against a very good team tonight," Falor said. "I know it doesn't show on paper, but I think we played our best defensive contest of the season"

The Vikings were outshot 21-6 in the match, including 14-3 in the first half. Lisa Conway led the Vikings with two shots on the night.

CSU will return to Krenzler Field where they will be in action on Sunday, Sept. 25 against IPFW. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m.
