OLEAN, N.Y. - Shannon Van Ripper scored a pair of second half goals, the first off a misplay from by the CSU goalie, as St. Bonaventure recorded a 4-1 win over the Vikings on Friday night at McGraw-Jennings Field.

The loss dropped Cleveland State to 0-2 this year while the Bonnies improved to 1-1.

"I am not very happy with our performance tonight," CSU head coach Derrek Falor said. "We had every opportunity to take control of the match in the first half, but we couldn't finish off any of three very good and routine scoring chances. Then we didn't have any intensity when we started the second half and gave them too many chances.

"We are a better team than this. We haven't allowed a goal in the first half this fall but have given up 10 in the second half. We have to figure this out, otherwise it will be a long fall."

After a scoreless first half, St. Bonaventure opened the second half scoring at the 48:54 mark when Marilyn Wargo headed in a cross from Hannah Lapp from just five yards out.

Cleveland State came right back, evening the game at 51:53 when Jennifer Wieand's long cross from the right corner was headed into the right corner by freshman Natalie Daniels.

"Jenni made a nice play on the ball and I am not sure how she was able to get so much on her cross," Falor said. "Natalie did a nice job running onto the cross and getting her head on the ball."

St. Bonaventure took the lead for good at the 62:09 mark when CSU goalie Kelly Zinkiewich attempted to clear a back pass from the Viking defense but inadvertently hit the ball of Van Ripper and back into the net.

Van Ripper made the score 3-1 in the 74th minute when she one-timed a short pass in front of the goal from the wing by Tori Burchett and beat Zinkiewich.

Anna Cunningham's goal in the 83rd minute rounded out the scoring.

CSU was outshot 18-7 in the contest with Zinkiewich making five saves in goal.

The Vikings conclude this New York road swing when they play at Niagara on Sunday (Aug. 31) at 1:00 p.m.
