MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - An early three-goal deficit was too much for the Cleveland State Vikings to overcome as they dropped a 3-2 pre-season decision to the Robert Morris Colonials Sunday afternoon at North Athletic Complex.

The Colonials put up three goals in the first 16 minutes of the game, but the Vikings made it close with a score in the 34th minute by Jennifer Wieand and a second-half goal in the 47th minute by Angela Kormos.

Wieand, who led the Vikings in goals in 2004, received a cross from Ashley Walchack and put it past the Robert Morris goalkeeper into the far side of the net. CSU would go into the break down by two goals, but an impressive second half kept the score tight.

Wieand took a corner kick that found the foot of Kormos, who put it in the net on the first touch. The Vikings would continue to control the second half, but were unable to find the goal again.

"I thought we played very well in the second half," head coach Derrek Falor said. "We found some real good passing lanes and dominated the possession. It was just too little too late."

Falor was impressed with the play of freshman goalkeeper Erin Withrow, who after a shaky beginning was solid for the Vikings, finishing with three saves.

"I thought Erin was excellent off the line and did a good job controlling the box," Falor said.

This game marked the end of the short pre-season portion of the Vikings' schedule. Cleveland State will use what they learned in the last two games to get ready for its season opener.

"There were a lot of positives to take out from today's game," Falor said. "This was the first time we scored two goals in a game. We were also able to shutout our opponents in the second half. We showed a lot of positives that hopefully we can take into Kent."

The Vikings open up there season against a familiar foe in Kent State. Last season in the first game in Cleveland State women's soccer history, the Golden Flashes defeated CSU 4-0. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28 at Kent State Soccer Field.
