Boyer Adds Clark to Roster

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State University Women's Soccer Head Coach Dallas Boyer has announced the addition of defensive midfielder Kierstin Clark to the 2020 roster. An incoming freshman, Clark has been admitted into Cleveland State's Honors College.

"We are really excited to be able to add a student-athlete of Kierstin's value to what is already an incredibly exciting incoming freshman class," said Boyer. "Her recruiting process was unfortunately set back a bit over the last year because of injury, but as we've talked about throughout this process with her, I truly believe that things work out in the end for good people who do things the right way. So, it's no surprise that she's coming through her setback stronger and more prepared for this next step than ever."

"I loved the atmosphere of the school and the camaraderie of team," Clark said. "Coming to Cleveland also brings me close to my extended family and I am excited to have the opportunity to live in a city and all that comes with it."

Clark, who is expected to graduate in the spring of 2020 from Hilton Head Preparatory School, was named team captain of the Dolphins soccer team this past season and was a member of the All-Region Team her freshman year. During her high school career, Clark was a member of three teams that won regional championships (2016, 2017, 2018), which included an appearance in the 2018 South Carolina Semifinals.

"On the field, she does the things we ask of our defensive central midfielders. She is a very disruptive presence to the opponent's attack and protects that area in front of our defenders well. Kierstin is also able to be a key piece to our goal of maintaining possession through our midfield and relying on that position to get us from one area of the field to another effectively," states Boyer. "She's a very hard worker who enjoys being physical with a high priority of commitment to her teammates that we continue to stress."

A native of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Clark also enjoyed a decorated high school basketball career, which included being named a three-time member of the All-Region Team, a two-time All-Star selection and a one-time All-State selection.

In addition to her athletic accolades, the future Viking is a member of the National Honors Society, Trustee Honor Roll, and is a four-time Scholar Athlete and four-time Outstanding Student Award winner.

"Kierstin embodies everything that we value in this program on and off the field and we are thrilled to be able to add her to this already incredibly impressive freshman class," said Boyer.

Clark's father, Matthew, is a physical therapist, while her mother, Katrin, is an upper school math teacher. She has one sister named Ella.
