THE OPENING KICK:
• Sixth-seeded Cleveland State will open play in the Horizon League Championship with a first round match at third-seeded IUPUI on Monday (Oct. 30) at 7:00 pm.
• The Vikings enter the tournament with a 9-9 overall record and earned the sixth seed after going 5-4 in the Horizon League.
• IUPUI is 13-5-1 overall and is the third seed in the tournament after posting a 6-2-1 record in the League.
THE HL TOURNAMENT:
• In addition to CSU playing at IUPUI, fourth-seeded Wright State will host fifth-seeded UIC in Monday's other first round match.
• The two winners will advance to Thursday's semifinals which will be played at top-seeded Milwaukee. Second-seeded Northern Kentucky joined Milwaukee with a bye into the semifinals.
• The championship match will be played on Saturday night in Milwaukee.
CSU IN THE HL TOURNAMENT:
• The Vikings will be making their 10th appearance in the Horizon League Championship and their first since the 2015 season.
• CSU is 1-8-1 all-time in the League tournament with the lone win a 2-1 overtime victory against Youngstown State in 2007.
• The Vikings played to a 1-1 draw at Oakland in 2014 before losing in a shootout, 8-7.
THE FIRST MEETING:
• CSU opened the Horizon League season at IUPUI on Sept. 15 with the Jaguars earning a 1-0 victory in overtime.
• After a scoreless 90 minutes of soccer, IUPUI scored the game-winner 5:58 into the first overtime.
• CSU out-shot IUPUI, 20-11, in the match, including 7-4 in shots on goal.
LAST WEEK:
• The Vikings fell to Horizon League regular season champion Milwaukee, 2-0, on Friday night in the regular season finale.
• The Panthers, who concluded the regular season as the lone undefeated team in the country, scored a goal in each half off a corner kick.
SENIOR DAY:
• Friday's match against Milwaukee was Senior Day with Katie Bainbridge and Jamie Daniels being honored in a pre-match ceremony.
• Bainbridge has been a mainstay in the CSU midfield the last four years, playing in 73 career matches, the eighth most in school history.
• She ranks 11th in CSU history with 17 career points on three goals and 11 assists, which are tied for the second most in program history.
• Bainbridge was named to the 2014 Horizon League All-Newcomer team.
• Daniels has been one of the top goalkeepers to come through the program.
• She has played in 56 career matches and started the last 53 times.
• Daniels ranks second in program history with 12.5 shutouts and third all-time with 240 saves.
• She is a two-time Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week.
THE HEAD COACH:
• Dallas Boyer is in his first season as the head coach at CSU.
• He was an assistant for the Vikings for the previous 11 years.
• Boyer earned his first career victory with a 2-1 win at Kent State on Aug. 20, just the second victory over KSU in program history.
FOR STARTERS:
• A total of 20 different players have earned a starting assignment this year
• Two players - Jamie Daniels and Ashley Thiss - have started all 18 games this season.
A LOOK AT THE "W's":
• CSU's nine wins this year are tied for the second most in a season (2010) and just one win shy of tying the 2011 team for the school record of 10 wins.
• The Vikings five Horizon League wins this year are tied with the 2010 squad for the most in a season in school history.
SCORING GOALS:
• CSU's five goals against Youngstown State (Sept. 27) were the most since a 7-0 win over Chicago State on Aug. 23, 2015.
• It was also the most goals CSU has scored in a League game, breaking the old mark of four set four days prior against Oakland.
• The Vikings scored 16 goals in Horizon League matches this year, breaking the mark old mark of eight goals in League games set in 2014 and 2016.
• CSU's 27 goals this year are one shy of equaling the 2014 squad for most goals in a season.
FOUR WITH DOUBLE DIGIT POINTS:
• CSU has four players with double digit points this year.
• Jenna Prathapa leads the team with 15 points, while Dani Sowinski and McKenna Vento have 12 and Grace Grant has tallied 10 points.
• It's the first time in program history that more than two players have had at least 10 points.
HAT TRICK FOR SOWINSKI:
• Dani Sowinski scored three goals vs. Oakland (Sept. 23), becoming the first CSU player with a hat trick since Amanda Sivic at Chicago State on Aug. 31, 2014.
• She is one of just four players to score three goals in a game in school history.
• Sowinski's five goals are second most among all players in Horizon League matches, while her 12 points are third in the League.
CLOSING IN ON SCHOOL RECORDS:
• The Vikings are closing in on several single season offensive records.
• CSU's 27 goals this year are one shy of tying the 2014 team which scored 28 goals.
• CSU's 20 assists this year are two shy of tying the 2014 squad, which registered 22 assists.
• This year's team has attempted 215 shots, five shy of equaling the record of 220 shots set in 2014.
DICKSON EARNS ACADEMIC HONOR:
• Toni Dickson was selected to the Horizon League Women's Soccer All-Academic team.
• She has a 3.95 grade point average as a health sciences/pre-physician assistant major.
• Dickson has been a mainstay on the backline during her career, appearing in 51 matches with 47 starts and helping the Vikings to 12 shutouts.
• She has amassed 11 career points on five goals and one assist.
• A team captain, Dickson has scored two goals this year.
SHE'S A FRESHMAN:
• Freshman Jenna Prathapa is sixth in the league in goals (6) and 10th in points (15).
• Prathapa's six goals are tied for the fourth most in a season in program history and are the most for a freshman in school history. Her 15 points are tied for the fifth most in a season in school history.
A LOOK AT SOME RECORDS:
• Senior Katie Bainbridge dished out her 11th career assist at Green Bay (Oct. 7), moving her into a tie for second place on the all-time list at CSU with Vickie Havas (2012-15).
• Junior McKenna Vento has nine career assists, fourth most in CSU history, and also ranks 10th in program history with 22 career points.
• Senior Jamie Daniels is third in program history with 240 career saves and second with 12.5 shutouts.
UNDEFEATED vs. NORTHEAST OHIO:
• CSU owns wins at Kent State and Akron and against Youngstown State this year
• It marks the first time in program history that the Vikings have defeated all three Northeast Ohio rivals in the same season.
UP NEXT:
• A win at IUPUI on Monday night would send the Vikings into the Horizon League semifinals.
• CSU would play at top-seeded Milwaukee at 8:00 pm ET.
