THE OPENING KICK:
    •    The Cleveland State women's soccer team continues its busy early season stretch with two matches this weekend.
    •    The Vikings will host the 2017 home opener on Friday (Aug. 25) at 4:00 pm against Binghamton and hit the road for a 2:00 pm match at Ohio on Sunday (Aug. 27).
    •    Friday's match will be the first for the two teams in women's soccer. The Vikings have met Ohio nine times in women's soccer with the Bobcats holding a 3-4-2 advantage in the series, including a 5-0 win in Cleveland last year.
    •    The Vikings won the last match-up in Athens, 2-0, in 2015.
    •    CSU is playing five of its first six matches away from home and will then play five of six at home.

LAST WEEK:
    •    CSU opened the 2017 season with a pair of road matches, falling at Xavier, 3-2, on Friday (Aug. 18) and earning a 2-1 win at Kent State on Sunday (Aug. 20).
    •    In the match at Xavier, neither team scored in the first half before Xavier erupted for three straight goals to open a 3-0 lead.
    •    Aliani Lorenzo put the Vikings on the board with a goal in the 78th minute and Jenna Prathapa scored in the 84th minute to slice the deficit to 3-2, but the Vikings could not score the equalizer despite keeping the pressure on.
    •    In Sunday's win at Kent State, Grace Grant scored her first career goal just 5:15 into the match off an assist from Ashley Thiss and Prathapa scored on a penalty kick at the 16:25 mark to give CSU a 2-0 lead. Kent State scored right before halftime.
    •    The win over Kent State was just the second for CSU in women's soccer in 11 attempts (2009).

FREE KICKS:
    •    A total of 14 different players drew a starting assignment for CSU over the weekend, while Jamie Daniels, Toni Dickson and Essence Canady were the only players on the field for all 180 minutes.
    •    CSU's 25 player roster features 17 players who are in their first or second season with the Vikings. The roster has eight freshmen and eight sophomores, as well as junior Sydney Duggan who spent her first two seasons at Oakland.
    •    The 2017 roster has just two seniors in midfielder Katie Bainbridge and goalkeeper Jamie Daniels.
    •    Bainbridge ranks fifth in school history with five career assists.
    •    Daniels is fourth in program history with 188 career saves and third with seven shutouts. She is 23 saves shy of moving past Erin Winthrow (2005-06) into third place.
    •    Junior McKenna Vento has five career assists, which is tied for 10th in school history.
    •    Lorenzo returns to the lineup this year after playing in just six games last year before an injury cut her season short. Lorenzo scored three goals with one assist in her six matches last year.
    •    A trio of freshmen - Jenna Prathapa, Essence Canady and Grace Grant - earned starting assignments in the opening exhibition match at Buffalo (Aug. 9).

UP NEXT:
    •    The Vikings continue their early season roadswing with two matches next week, playing at Akron on Thursday (Aug. 31) at 7:00 pm and traveling to Butler for a 4:00 pm contest on Sunday (Sept. 3).
