Women's Soccer Adds 11 To Join in Fall of 2016

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's soccer team has added 11 student-athletes who will join the program in the fall of 2016, head coach Sonia Curvelo announced on Wednesday.

Joining the women's soccer program beginning in the fall of 2016 will be Bridget Adams (Linden, Mich.), Anna DeBiasi (Plymouth, Mich.), Emily Edgell (Wooster, Ohio), Faith Kuzma (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Ali Lorenzo (Ewa Beach, Hawaii), Maren Melnick (Toronto, Canada), Briana Niedermeier (Irondequoit, NY), Bianca Sarti (Shelby Township, Mich.), Kali Silhavy (Plainfield, Ill.), Kalyn Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Elaina Walnoha (Upper St. Clair, Pa.).

"We are very excited to welcome the 2016 class to our Viking Soccer Family," head coach Sonia Curvelo said. "This is a very talented group of young ladies that will be able to make an immediate positive impact within all facets of our program. The addition of this class will truly complement the rest of our core group.

"They are very passionate about the game and are determined to help CSU Women's Soccer win its first championships.  Each player is committed to their sport and studies, which is important to our culture already placed here with our women's soccer program.  

Following are complete bios on each of the 11 newcomers.

Bridget Adams
5-9, Fr., Goalkeeper
Linden, Mich. (Linden)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Bridget is a very coachable player and will be a great option for us as a goalkeeper.  She has a strong work ethic and dedicates a great amount of time to improve her game.  She will look to challenge our current keepers, which will help improve our team overall."

HIGH SCHOOL
Has earned three letters... will compete in senior season this spring... first team all-league selection during first three seasons... led team to league and district titles as a sophomore and junior... has 28 career shutouts.

PERSONAL
Born Sept. 12, 1998, in Linden, Mich... daughter of Brett Holtslander and Kelly Adams... father played football at Central Michigan... biology major.

Anna DeBiasi
5-7, Fr., Midfield
Plymouth, Mich. (Plymouth)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Anna will add strength to our forwards.  She is the type of player that will beat players 1-on-1 and help create opportunities for us in the final third.  We are excited to have her with us."

HIGH SCHOOL
Earned a letter all four years... was a first team all-conference pick as a junior after totaling four goals and five assists... helped team to 21-1-1 record her freshman season and spot in regional finals... led team to district title as a sophomore and division title her junior season... scholar-athlete award as a sophomore and junior.

PERSONAL
Born Sept. 8, 1998, in Dearborn, Mich... daughter of Chuck and Laura DeBiasa... has four sisaters... chemical engineering major.

Emily Edgell
5-6, Fr., Forward
Wooster, Ohio (Wooster)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Emily has shown great promise in her development. She is a player that I expect to play forward for us and is the type of player that will provide us with opportunities to create and score goals. She gets herself in great situations on the field and will combine well with other forwards we have."

HIGH SCHOOL
Was a four-year starter at Wooster HS... first team all-conference as a junior and senior and second team as a sophomore... named first team all-district in each of final three seasons... was also second team all-conference and all-district as a freshman... totaled 45 goals and 19 assists for her career.

PERSONAL
Born Jan. 6, 1998, in Wooster, Ohio... daughter of Ed Edgell and Nikki Fehrenbach... has one brother... member of honor and merit roll... education major.

Faith Kuzma
5-5, Fr., Midfield
Grand Rapids, Mich. (Kenowa Hills)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Faith is a special player that is very composed on the ball and is great at distribution and making that final pass in the final third.  She can strike a strong ball with accuracy 40 yards out that I have not seen very often in the women's game."  

HIGH SCHOOL
Was a member of all-conference, all-district, all-region and all-state teams as a junior.

PERSONAL
Born Aug. 13, 1998, in Grand Rapids, Mich... daughter of Steve and Wendy Kuzma... has three sisters... member of honor roll ever year... psychology major.

Ali Lorenzo
5-3, Fr., Midfield
Ewa Beach, Hawaii (James Campbell)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Ali will be a great addition to our midfield.  She has great vision and creativity on the ball that will allow us to create more attacking and scoring opportunities. She is very passionate about the game and she will provide quality play on the field for us and help us keep the ball more in the middle of the field."  

HIGH SCHOOL
Earned four letters... helped lead team to 28-6-6 record over her four years... team won OIA championship her junior year, was a semifinalist her sophomore year and quarterfinalist as a freshman... first team all-state her final three seasons... team Most Outstanding Player in each of final three seasons... scored 20 goals with 50 assists for her career.

PERSONAL
Born July 2, 1998, in Kapiolani, Hawaii... daughter of Austin and Lehynani Lorenzo... has three brothers and three sisters... business major.

Maren Melnick
5-9, Fr., Forward
Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Bill Crothers Secondary)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Maren will be our target forward. She is a player that will create for us scoring opportunities in the final third, is strong to hold up the ball and can play quick. Her thought process on the field and execution is at a great level so with her addition I feel that we will be able to score more goals this season. ."

HIGH SCHOOL
Helped squad to league championship in 2015 and was the top goal scorer... won Golden Boot Award in 2012 as top scorer.

PERSONAL
Born Aug. 5, 1998, in Toronto, Ontario... daughter of David and Wendy Melnick... has two brothers... undecided on a major.

Briana Niedermeier
5-4, Fr., Midfield
Irondequoit, NY (The Aquinas Institute)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Bri will provide us with options in center midfield. She is creative on the ball and has great vision on the field to play through balls. I have personally known Briana since she was eight years old when I played for Rochester Rhinos. She was my No. 1 soccer fan that followed my professional playing career and I am excited to have her come play for me at CSU."  

HIGH SCHOOL
Earned four letters and started every game... finished career with 13 goals and 15 assists... second team all-state as a senior and the Parochial Player of the Year... also earned first team all-area honors... third team all-state as a junior and Rookie of the Year her first season.

PERSONAL
Born April 11, 1998, in Rochester, NY... daughter of Jesse and Susan Niedermeier... has one sister... undecided on major.

Bianca Sarti
5-9, Fr., Midfield
Shelby Township, Mich. (Eisenhower)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Bianca will be able to provide us with options in the midfield and forward positions.  She is the type of player that will work really hard and put in the work to improve her game.  She is determined on the field and those are special qualities to have in the training sessions and game days."      

HIGH SCHOOL
Has earned two letters and will conclude career this spring... led team to district title as a junior... named Offensive Player of the year and MVP as a sophomore when she set school record for most goals in a season.

PERSONAL
Born Oct. 8, 1998, in Sterling Heights, Mich... daughter of Jim and Judi Sarti... has one brother... undecided on a major.

Kali Silhavy
5-5, Fr., Defense/Midfield
Plainfield, Ill. (Plainfield)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Kali will add to our defensive midfield and center back position. We will look for her to be aggressive in those positions and win balls for us by stopping the opposing team going forward."       

HIGH SCHOOL
Lettered as a freshman and played full-time club soccer as a sophomore and junior... helped team to first-ever regional title as a freshman... led club team to Illinois state championship in 2014... team reached state semifinals in 2013.

PERSONAL
Born Sept. 20, 1998, in Bloomington, Ind... daughter of Steve and Susan Silhavy... has two brothers... undecided on a major.

Kalyn Smith
5-3, Fr., Forward/Defense
Cincinnati, Ohio (Fairfield)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"KK will add speed to our team. She will be a player that we can utilize as a fullback on the team and play as a forward, which will allow us to have more options on the field. She is very competitive in her play which is important when building a program to win championships."    

HIGH SCHOOL
Earned four letters and led team to top-three finishes in the conference, including first place finish her sophomore year... served as team captain as a senior... was a first team all-conference pick as a junior and senior... named Defensive Player of the Year her junior season... first team all-city in each of final two seasons... tallied three goals and 12 assists for her career.

PERSONAL
Born June 30, 1998, in Cincinnati, Ohio... daughter of Freddy and Tenisha Smith... has two brothers... nursing major.

Elaina Walnoha
5-9, Fr., Defense
Upper St. Clair, Pa. (Upper St. Clair)

COACH CURVELO COMMENTS
"Elaina is a great addition for our program. She is a player that we will rely on as a fullback and provide us with options as a forward.  She is very athletic and has improved her ability on the ball throughout the recruiting process. Not many players can get by her and I feel that she will strengthen this part of our team in the coming years. She is the type of player that is willing to do whatever it takes on the field to win and will be a great utility player for us."     

HIGH SCHOOL
Three-year starter who led team to 20-1-2 record and state title her senior season... was an all-section honoree... helped team to section championship as a junior.

PERSONAL
Born Sept. 5, 1997, in Pittsburgh, Pa... daughter of Jim and Tracy Walnoha... has two brothers... elementary education major.
