Vikings Stay Perfect in Horizon League With 1-0 Win at Green Bay on Sargema Goal

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Cleveland State women's soccer team remained perfect in the Horizon League and earned a key three points with a 1-0 win at Green Bay on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings, who improved to 7-4-1 overall, improved to 3-0 in the Horizon League for the first time in program history. Green Bay fell to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in the league.

The victory was the fifth shutout of the season for the Vikings, two shy of equaling the school record for shutouts in a season set in 2010 and 2014.

After a scoreless first half in which the Phoenix outshot CSU, 9-7, the Vikings got on the scoreboard when Kaila Sargema netted her fourth goal of the season at the 70:47 mark when she headed in a corner kick from Katie Bainbridge.

It was all the CSU defense would need as the Viking defense continued its strong play, having allowed just one goal in three League matches this year with the quartet of Marissa Sarsfield, Erin O'Toole, Sydney McCourt and Toni Dickson all playing 90 minutes on the backline.

Jamie Daniels made five saves to earn the shutout.

The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday (Oct. 10) when CSU hosts Milwaukee at 7:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
