Second Half Goals From Havas & Thiss Lift Vikings Past Youngstown State, 2-1

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State used a pair of second half goals over a 44 second span - both off set pieces - to defeat Youngstown State, 2-1, in Horizon League women's soccer action on Wednesday night at Krenzler Field.

CSU improved to 6-4-1 overall and 2-0 in the league, while the Penguins fell to 5-7 overall (0-3 HL).

The Vikings stayed perfect at home this season, improving to 4-0-1 and extended their unbeaten streak at Krenzler Field to eight straight matches dating to last season.

YSU took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a goal from Kyler Lum at the 33:57 mark.

It stayed that way until the 73:21 mark when Vickie Havas netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season, extending her CSU career record to 21 goals. Havas, who broke the school record for career goals in Saturday's win over Detroit, evened tonight's contest when she scored from 6-yards out off a free kick from Katie Bainbridge.

The Vikings took the lead just 44 seconds later when Erin O'Toole sent in a free kick from the right side that Ashley Thiss headed into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

CSU outshot the Penguins, 12-8, including 7-3 in shots on goal.

Jamie Daniels made two saves to earn the win in goal.

CSU continues league play with a 2:00 pm EST match at Green Bay on Saturday (Oct. 3).
