Havas Breaks CSU Career Goals Record in 1-0 Win Over Detroit

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State senior Vickie Havas broke the CSU record for career goals with her 20th carry tally to lift the Vikings over Detroit, 1-0, on Saturday night at Krenzler Field.

CSU, which had not played since Sept. 13 after last week's match at UIC was postponed, improved to 5-4-1 overall and won its league opener. The Titans slipped to 4-5-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.

After a scoreless first half, Havas netted the first and only goal of the match in the 77th minute, her fourth of the season, al of which have been game-winning goals. It was also the 20th career goal for Havas, moving her past Natalie Daniels (2007-11) and into first place on the all-time goals list in CSU history

Daniels was in attendance at tonight's match as part of Alumni Night for Homecoming.

McKenna Vento started the play by splitting a pair of Titan defenders right in front of the CSU bench. She worked her way upfield before sending a pass to Kaila Sargema near the end line. Sargema then sent a cross into the box where Havas knocked in her record setting goal.

The Titans had several chances in the closing minutes, but could not get a shot on frame, while CSU goalkeeper Jamie Daniels also came up with several saves to preserve the lead. She finished with six saves.

Claudia Eustaquio made four saves for the Titans.

CSU is back in action on Wednesday (Sept. 30) when the Vikings host Youngstown State at 7:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
