Vikings Drop First Match of Season, 4-2, at Akron

AKRON, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's soccer team dropped its first match of the season, falling at Akron, 4-2, on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field.

The Vikings fell to 3-1-1 this season, while the Zips improved to 2-0-1.

After a scoreless first half, the two teams combined to score six goals over the final 45 minutes. The Zips scored the first three, including one from Sarah Sivic at the 54:02 mark to open the scoring on a penalty kick.

Sivic would assist on the next two goals, the first coming by Katie George at the 62:46 mark to give Akron a 2-0 lead. The advantage was extended to 3-0 at the 77:13 mark when Sivic found Karin Norman for her first goal of the season.

The Vikings got on the board just 14 seconds later when Allie Sieradzki converted a penalty kick, but the Zips responded less than one minute later when George scored her second goal of the night to give Akron a 4-1 lead.

Kaila Sargema rounded out the scoring with 3:21 to play when she gathered a loose ball in the box and scored her third goal of the season.

CSU returns to action for a pair of matches at the Alumni Classic at St. Bonaventure this weekend, playing Cornell at 4:30 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 4) and St. Bonaventure on Sunday (Sept. 6) at 2:00 p.m.
