Vikings Stay Unbeaten With 2-1 Win at Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. - Cleveland State answered an early Eastern Kentucky goal with two of its own and stayed unbeaten with a 2-1 victory at EKU on Friday afternoon.

The win improves the Vikings to 2-0-1 this year, while the Colonels fell to 0-3. It is the second best start in program history, topped only by the 2010 team which won its first five games.

EKU took an early 1-0 lead just 6:32 into the match when Baily Bounds scored her first goal of the season from 10 yards out.

The Vikings answered just five minutes later when Toni Dickson scored her first career collegiate goal, knocking in a goal from short range off a corner kick by McKenna Vento. It was the third assist of the season for the freshman.

Vickie Havas would break the tie 6:33 into the second half when she netted her first goal of the season off a Payton Lewis assist. It was the 17th career goal for Havas, three shy of moving past Natalie Daniels for the CSU career record.

Jamie Daniels made three saves in goal for the Vikings to earn the win as CSU out-shot the Colonels, 20-11 and took 10 corner kicks compared to three for EKU.

CSU is back in action on Sunday (Aug. 30) when the Vikings conclude their two-game weekend road trip with a 1:00 p.m. match at Ohio.
